Birka, also known as Sweden's first town, a Viking society that was built during the 700's and then was inhabited for about 200 years. Birka on the island Björkö in Mälaren served as an important trade center in the kingdom of the Swedes in the Viking Age. Today Birka busy on. UNISCOS World Heritage List. Cultural History Museum in Stockholm


Hallwyl Museum is located on Hamngatan 4 in Stockholm and is a state museum of cultural history.

The property was built in 1898 as a residence for Walther and Wilhelmina von Hallwyl, designed by Isak Gustaf Clason. Spouses Hallwyl owned large collections of art and antiques and decided early on that their homes would be preserved as a museum after his death. The museum's collection includes over 50,000 items. In 1920, bequeathed the couple von Hallwyl both the palace, inventories and collections to the Swedish state. The museum opened to the public in 1938 and is since 1978 in authority Armoury and Skokloster with the Foundation Hallwyl.

The building consists of about 40 rooms spread over 2,000 square meters. The house has 4 floors. The kitchen and ancillary spaces located below ground level, while the ground floor includes reception, cloakroom and in the east wing office originally intended for the family business. On the floor upstairs is drawing rooms and bedrooms and bathrooms are located two floors up. The penthouse was furnished with a skittle alley, picture gallery and Countess gymnastikrum.

Hallwyl Palace was around the turn of the century one of the most lavish Swedish private residences in Stockholm. The building cost two million to construct. The interiors exhibit a range of historical styles with precious materials, with antiques from the baroque and rococo period exclusive interior and artistic decoration. Most were bought from Bukowski, but also from contacts in Europe during the couple's travels.

Hallwyl Museum is well worth a visit for both the culture that art lovers and among the most beautiful among Stockholm's Museum

Hallwylska museet ligger på Hamngatan 4 i Stockholm och är ett statligt kulturhistoriskt museum.

Fastigheten uppfördes år 1898 som bostad åt Walther och Wilhelmina von Hallwyl efter ritningar av Isak Gustaf Clason. Makarna Hallwyl ägde stora samlingar av konst och antikviteter och bestämde tidigt att deras hem skulle bevaras som museum efter deras bortgång. Museets samlingar omfattar över 50 000 föremål. År 1920 testamenterade paret von Hallwyl både palatset, inventarierna och samlingarna till den svenska staten. Museet öppnades för allmänheten 1938 och ingår sedan 1978 i myndigheten Livrustkammaren och Skoklosters slott med Stiftelsen Hallwylska museet.

Byggnaden består av omkring 40 rum fördelade på 2000 kvadratmeter. Huset har 4 våningsplan. Köket och tillhörande utrymmen ligger under marknivån, medan bottenvåningen innehåller mottagningsrum, kapprum samt i östra flygeln kontorsrum ursprungligen avsedda för familjeföretaget. På våningen en trappa upp ligger sällskapsrummen, och sovrum och badrum är förlagda två trappor upp. Vindsvåningen inreddes med kägelbana, tavelgalleri och grevinnans gymnastikrum.

Hallwylska palatset var runt sekelskiftet en av de mest påkostade svenska privatbostäderna i Stockholm. Byggnaden kostade två miljoner kronor att uppföra. Inredningarna uppvisar en rad historiska stilar med dyrbara materialval, med antikviteter från barock- och rokokotiden exklusiv inredning och konstnärlig utsmyckning. Det mesta köptes från Bukowskis men även från kontakter i Europa under parets resor.

Hallwylska museet är väl värt ett besök för såväl den kultur som konstintresserade och bland det vackraste bland Stockholms museum.
